Working Together Fairly
Share jobs, listen to others and treat everyone with respect.
What your child practices
Practices group skills: sharing ideas, decisions and responsibilities, being fair and respectful, considering other people's views, listening actively and choosing ways to present information.
Alaska content standards learning standard: SS.3.6.6.1; SS.3.3.7.1 · how people benefit from working together, and why groups need ways to make decisions
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- In a group, share ideas, jobs and decisions.
- Listen when others talk, and be kind and polite.
- A perspective is someone’s way of seeing things. Others may see it differently, and that’s okay.
Example: Your group disagrees about a poster idea. What should you do first? Every person’s ideas matter. Listening helps you understand their perspective. Answer: listen to everyone’s ideas
Working Together Fairly in Alaska
In the Alaska content standards, this is unit 2 of 6 in 3rd grade Social Studies, after Needs Around the World and before Alaska's Land & Regions.
Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
