How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  2. A year has 12 months. January is first.
  3. December is the last month.

Example: Which day comes before Saturday? The days go: Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Friday is just before Saturday. Answer: Friday

Days, Weeks & Months in Alaska

In the Alaska content standards, this is unit 8 of 9 in Kindergarten Social Studies, after Money & Work and before Good Citizens.

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
