Units

  1. Unit 1

    Count to 10

Counting objects one at a time, matching numbers to amounts, counting on and back, putting numbers in order, and knowing that nothing is zero.

Learning outcome: KN1.2, KN1.3 · counting forward and backward within 10, and matching one number to each object

  2. Unit 2

    See It Fast

Subitizing means knowing how many are in a small group without counting. Practise with dice, dominoes and fingers: show a number and ask how many.

Learning outcome: KN1.3 · seeing small quantities to 5 at a glance without counting one by one (subitizing)

  3. Unit 3

    More, Less, Same

Comparing groups by matching them one to one, seeing equal as balanced and unequal as unbalanced on a scale, and reading simple picture graphs.

Learning outcome: KN1.1 · comparing quantities using more, less, the same, enough and not enough

  4. Unit 4

    Make 5 and 10

Using 5 and 10 as anchors (fingers, five and ten frames), finding how many more make 5 or 10, and breaking numbers into two parts.

Learning outcome: KN1.1, KN2.1 · putting numbers together and taking them apart within 10

  5. Unit 5

    Add & Take Away

Small story problems where some join or some leave (totals to 10), plus finding one more and one less.

Learning outcome: KN2.1 · adding and taking away within 10 with objects

  6. Unit 6

    Patterns

Spotting the part that repeats in patterns like AB, AAB, ABB and ABC, then predicting what comes next or what is missing.

Learning outcome: KP1.1 · copying, extending and making repeating patterns of up to three parts

  7. Unit 7

    Shapes & Sizes

Naming flat shapes and solid objects by one feature (sides, corners, rolls or not), and comparing things by size, height, length, weight and how much they hold.

Learning outcome: KG1.1, KM1.1, KM1.2 · 2D shapes and 3D objects in the world, and comparing size by length, weight and capacity

  8. Unit 8

    First, Next, Today

Talk about the order of things at home: what you do first, next and last, and what happened yesterday or will happen tomorrow.

Learning outcome: KT1.1 · putting events in order, and using first, next, today, yesterday and tomorrow
