Sight Words
Words we know by sight
What your child practices
Recognizing common words such as the, see, can and my, plus color and number words, by looking closely at their letters.
Arizona Academic Standards learning standard: K.RF.3 · reading common high-frequency words by sight
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- Sight words are words we see a lot, like “the”, “is” and “red”.
- Look at the first letter, then the whole word.
- Say the word each time you see it.
Example: Find the word “is”: it, is or in? “is” starts with i and ends with s. Only one word ends with s. Answer: is
