Sight Words

Words to know by heart

What your child practices

Common words like said, was, they and where that are tricky to sound out. Children practice finding, using and spelling them so they can read them at a glance.

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Sight words show up a lot, like the, have and like.
  2. Look at every letter in order.
  3. Some don’t sound like they look, so learn them by heart.

Example: Which is the right way to spell “have”? hav or have? “have” has a silent e at the end. h-a-v-e. Answer: have
