Places Near Me

Buildings, nature and what they are for

What your child practices

Naming places in the community (library, park, school, hospital), what they are used for, and whether they are natural or built.

Maine Learning Results learning standard: Geography 1; Geography 2 · places near home and school and how the land around us affects families

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Some places are nature: hills, lakes, meadows.
  2. Some places are built by people: stores, bridges, libraries.
  3. Each place has a job, like a store for food.

Example: Is a bridge nature or built? People made the bridge. Things people make are built. Answer: built
