I Am Me

My interests and strengths

What your child practices

Noticing what we like and are good at, feeling proud of things we have done, and finding words to share our thoughts and experiences.

Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: K.5.23.1 · describing myself and what makes me who I am

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. You are special. You have things you like to do.
  2. A strength is something you are good at.
  3. Say kind things to yourself, like “I can learn.”

Example: You learned to ride a bike. How might you feel? You worked hard and did it! That feeling is called proud. Answer: proud

I Am Me in Minnesota

In the Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards, this is unit 2 of 10 in Kindergarten Social Studies, after All About Me and before Families.

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
