How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- President Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society created Medicare (for older people) and Medicaid (health care for people with low incomes) in 1965.
- The Vietnam War divided the country, and the Watergate scandal led President Nixon to resign in 1974.
- Civil liberties are basic freedoms, like speech and religion, that government may not take away.
Example: What did the Watergate scandal lead President Nixon to do? Watergate involved a break-in and a cover-up. Nixon faced impeachment. He left office in 1974. Answer: resign
