What your child practises

Finding a percent of a number, moving between fractions, decimals and percents, sale prices and sales tax (BC's 12%), simple monthly budgets, and making change.

Newfoundland and Labrador Curriculum curriculum outcome: Number sense and number theory (by Grade 9) · percents greater than 100 and less than 1, and money problems

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practise.

  1. A percent can be more than 100% or less than 1%.
  2. Percent of a number: change the percent to a decimal and multiply.
  3. A budget compares money in with money out.

Example: What is 150% of 40? 150% = 1.5. 1.5 × 40 = 60. Answer: 60
