    Moving to the City

Ravi's grandparents grew up in a small farming village. When the rains failed for three years in a row, their crops dried up and there was little work. Like millions of other people around the world, they decided to move to a fast-growing city.

In the city, Ravi's grandfather found a job in a factory, and his grandmother trained as a nurse. Their children could walk to a school and a health clinic. But city life was not always easy. Rent was expensive, buses were crowded, and the air was smoky on hot days.

Years later, Ravi's parents moved again, this time to Canada, where a cousin helped them find an apartment and work. Ravi was born a year after they arrived.
