First, Next, Today

Before, after and the days

What your child practises

Talk about the order of things at home: what you do first, next and last, and what happened yesterday or will happen tomorrow.

Nunavut Curriculum approved guide: Nunavut Mathematics K–6 (2025), K.SS.1.3 · the days of the week and the order of daily events

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practise.

  1. First happens before next. Last happens at the end.
  2. Yesterday is before today. Tomorrow is after today.
  3. Think of what happens in order.

Example: Today is Friday. What day is tomorrow? Tomorrow is the day after today. After Friday comes Saturday. Answer: Saturday
