More, Less, Same
Compare groups and balance
What your child practices
Comparing groups by matching them one to one, seeing equal as balanced and unequal as unbalanced on a scale, and reading simple picture graphs.
Oregon State Standards learning standard: K.NCC.C.6; K.NCC.C.7 · telling whether one group is greater than, less than or equal to another, and comparing numbers to 10
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- Match things one to one.
- The group with extras has more.
- If none are left over, the groups are the same.
Example: There are 5 cats and 3 dogs. Which group has more? Match each dog to a cat. 2 cats have no match. Answer: The cats
