Prince Edward Island Curriculum curriculum outcome: Number · comparing and ordering fractions, decimals and whole numbers
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practise.
- Turn everything into the same form, such as decimals.
- Compare place by place, starting at the left.
- A fraction becomes a decimal when you divide the top by the bottom.
Example: Which is greater, 3/5 or 0.62? 3 ÷ 5 = 0.6, or 0.600. Compare 0.600 and 0.620. 0.620 is greater. Answer: 0.62
