Grade 7 Circuits & Static worksheet
from Gradelings Β· Name: ______________________
How to explain it
- Current flows only around a complete, unbroken loop.
- A series circuit has one path, so one broken bulb stops them all. A parallel circuit has several paths.
- Static charges: like charges push apart, opposite charges pull together.
Example: A parallel circuit has 3 bulbs. One burns out. How many stay lit? In parallel, each bulb has its own path. The other paths are still complete. 3 β 1 = 2. Answer: 2
Question 1
Lightning is a giant example ofβ¦
π©οΈ- a series circuit
- static electricity discharging
- a magnet being switched off
- sound energy
static electricity discharging
Hint: Charge builds up in storm clouds, then jumps through the air in a huge spark.
Question 2
What does a circuit breaker or fuse do?
- It turns AC into sunlight
- It breaks the circuit if too much current flows, preventing overheating
- It adds extra current when needed
- It stores power during a blackout
It breaks the circuit if too much current flows, preventing overheating
Hint: Too much current makes wires hot. A breaker 'trips' to open the circuit before that becomes dangerous.
Question 3
Two balloons both have a negative charge. What happens when you bring them close?
π- They push apart (repel)
- They both become positive
- Nothing happens
- They pull together (attract)
They push apart (repel)
Hint: Like charges repel; opposite charges attract.
Question 4
In a series circuit, the current hasβ¦
- only one path to follow
- a path that skips every bulb
- two or more separate paths
- no path at all
only one path to follow
Hint: In series, everything is connected one after another in a single loop.
Question 5
A series circuit has 5 identical bulbs and a battery. One bulb burns out. How many bulbs stay lit?
π‘π‘π‘π‘π‘answer box
0
Hint: A series circuit has only one path. A burnt-out bulb breaks that path, so the current stops everywhere.
Question 6
Each cell gives 1.5 V. If 4 cells are connected in series (end to end), what is the total voltage?
ππππanswer boxV
6 V
Hint: Cells in series add their voltages: 1.5 V Γ 4.
Question 7
You add more identical bulbs in series to the same battery. What happens to the bulbs?
- Each bulb gets dimmer
- Each bulb gets brighter
- The brightness stays the same
- Only the first bulb lights up
Each bulb gets dimmer
Hint: More bulbs in one loop means more resistance, so less current flows through each bulb.
Question 8
Conductor or insulator? Sort each material.
Sort into: β‘ conductor Β· π« insulator
- πͺ΅dry wood
- π§€rubber glove
- βοΈgraphite pencil lead
- π§Άwool yarn
- πcopper wire
- π©iron nail
- πͺwindow glass
- π₯steel spoon
β‘ conductor: graphite pencil lead, copper wire, iron nail, steel spoon Β· π« insulator: dry wood, rubber glove, wool yarn, window glass
Hint: Conductors let electric current flow easily (most metals, graphite, salt water). Insulators block it (plastic, rubber, glass, dry wood).
Question 9
What does a switch do in a circuit?
- It makes the battery stronger
- It stores extra electricity
- It changes electricity into light
- It opens or closes the loop to stop or start the current
It opens or closes the loop to stop or start the current
Hint: An open switch makes a gap in the loop; a closed switch completes it.
Question 10
Which part of a circuit is the source of electrical energy?
π- the switch
- the battery
- the bulb
- the wire
the battery
Hint: A battery (or cell) pushes the current around the circuit.
Answer key
- 1. static electricity discharging
- 2. It breaks the circuit if too much current flows, preventing overheating
- 3. They push apart (repel)
- 4. only one path to follow
- 5. 0
- 6. 6 V
- 7. Each bulb gets dimmer
- 8. β‘ conductor: graphite pencil lead, copper wire, iron nail, steel spoon Β· π« insulator: dry wood, rubber glove, wool yarn, window glass
- 9. It opens or closes the loop to stop or start the current
- 10. the battery
