How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. “Alabama fever” brought many settlers, and Alabama became a state in 1819.
  2. The capital moved: St. Stephens, Huntsville, Cahawba, Tuscaloosa (1826–1846), then Montgomery.
  3. Cahawba lost the capital partly because it often flooded.
