World Regions
Place, region and the environment
What your child practices
Location, place, region, movement and human-environment interaction, and how they shape the way people live in different parts of the world.
Alabama Course of Study content standard: 7.2 · how location, place, region, movement and the environment shape life in an area
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- The five themes of geography: location, place, region, movement and human-environment interaction.
- Place has physical traits (climate, landforms) and cultural traits (language, religion).
- Movement is how people, goods and ideas spread. Population density is how many people live in an area.
Example: Is the language people speak a physical or a cultural characteristic of a place? Physical traits come from nature, like climate. Language comes from people, so it is cultural. Answer: cultural
