Alaska content standards learning standard: SS.4.1.11.1; SS.4.2.14.1; SS.4.1.16.1 · human capital, physical capital and natural resources in US regions, how regional economies connect, and how people adapt to each region's environment

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. The United States has five regions: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West.
  2. Land and climate shape work, like cotton and oranges in the warm Southeast and corn in the Midwest.
  3. Natural resources are things from nature that people use.

Example: Which region has a warm, wet climate where cotton and oranges grow? The region is in the south and east. It is the Southeast. Answer: the Southeast
