Weather & Seasons

Weather, seasons, day and night

What your child practices

Dressing for the weather, the four seasons in order, day and night, and how plants and animals change with the seasons.

Alaska content standards learning standard: K-ESS2-1 · observing local weather and describing its patterns over time

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. The seasons go spring, summer, fall, winter.
  2. Summer is the warmest. Winter is the coldest.
  3. Dress for the weather: a coat for cold, an umbrella for rain.

Example: It is snowing. What should you wear? Snow means it is cold. A warm coat keeps you warm. Answer: a warm coat

Weather & Seasons in Alaska

In the Alaska content standards, this is unit 3 of 8 in Kindergarten Science, after Push & Pull and before Care for Our Earth.

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
