What your child practices

Sorting by one attribute, reading picture graphs and bar graphs, and comparing groups.

California Content Standards learning standard: 1.MD.4 · representing and interpreting data with up to three categories

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Sort things into groups first.
  2. Count each group and write the number.
  3. The tallest bar or longest row has the most.

Example: 3 chose dogs and 5 chose cats. How many more chose cats? Cats: 5. Dogs: 3. 5 − 3 = 2. Answer: 2 more
