Ask, count and compare

What your child practices

Reading picture graphs with three groups: how many in each, how many more, how many in all, and which question a class survey can answer.

California Content Standards learning standard: 1.MD.4 · organizing, showing and reading data with up to three categories

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Count each row of the graph.
  2. Find the most and the fewest.
  3. Subtract to find how many more.

Example: 5 chose 🐶 and 3 chose 🐱. How many more chose 🐶? 5 − 3 = 2. Answer: 2
