Units
Unit 1
Bigger or Smaller
Comparing and ordering numbers, using <, > and =, and noticing numbers close to 50.
Learning standard: 2.NBT.4 · comparing numbers using >, = and <
Unit 2
Facts to 20
Fluent facts to 20 using strategies like making ten and thinking addition to subtract.
Learning standard: 2.OA.2 · fluently adding and subtracting within 20

Learning standard: 2.MD.1; 2.MD.3 · measuring and estimating lengths in centimeters and meters
Unit 5
Shapes
Describing shapes by their sides, corners (vertices) and faces, and spotting 3D shapes in real life.
Learning standard: 2.G.1 · recognizing and drawing shapes with given attributes
Unit 6
Graphs
Reading picture graphs: how many, which has the most or fewest, and how many more.
Learning standard: 2.MD.10 · reading picture graphs and bar graphs with a single-unit scale
Unit 7
Numbers to 1000
Reading and building numbers up to 1000 with hundreds, tens and ones, counting forwards and backwards by 10s and 100s, even and odd numbers, estimating with 100s as benchmarks, and comparing with <, > and =.

Unit 8
Fractions of a Whole
A fraction names equal parts of one whole. Children read unit fractions such as 1/4 and 1/8, learn that more equal parts means smaller parts, and name fractions like 3/4 from a picture. All wholes are cut into 10 or fewer equal parts.
Learning standard: 2.G.3 · partitioning circles and rectangles into halves, thirds and fourths
Unit 9
Skip Counting
Skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s forward and backward from 0 to 100, using a hundred chart or number line.
Learning standard: 2.NBT.2 · skip-counting by 5s, 10s and 100s
Unit 10
Even, Odd and Ordinals
Deciding whether a number up to 100 is even or odd by making pairs, and using ordinal numbers for position.
Learning standard: 2.OA.3 · deciding whether a group has an odd or even number of objects
Unit 11
Dollars & Cents
US money: pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar bills. Counting a handful of coins, making an amount, and word problems with the ¢ and $ signs.
Learning standard: 2.MD.8 · solving problems with dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies, using the $ and ¢ symbols
Unit 12
Five-Minute Clock
Reading clocks to the nearest five minutes, quarter past and quarter to, and knowing when a time is a.m. or p.m.
Learning standard: 2.MD.7 · telling and writing time to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.
Unit 13
Inches, Feet & Yards
Measuring and estimating length in inches, feet and yards (and centimeters and meters), and finding how much longer one thing is than another.
Learning standard: 2.MD.1; 2.MD.3; 2.MD.4; 2.MD.5 · measuring and estimating lengths in inches, feet, centimeters and meters, and solving length problems
Unit 14
Arrays
Adding equal rows to find the total in an array (up to 5 by 5), and cutting a rectangle into rows and columns of squares. This gets ready for multiplication.
Learning standard: 2.OA.4; 2.G.2 · adding to find the total in rectangular arrays, and partitioning a rectangle into rows and columns of squares
Unit 15
Add & Subtract to 1000
Adding and subtracting three-digit numbers using place value, and adding or taking away 10 or 100 in their head.
Learning standard: 2.NBT.7; 2.NBT.8 · adding and subtracting within 1000 using place value, and mentally adding or subtracting 10 or 100

Bar Graphs
Reading bar graphs with four groups: how many more, how many fewer, how many in all, and which question a class survey can answer.
Learning standard: 2.MD.10 · drawing and reading picture graphs and bar graphs to answer questions
Unit 17
About How Many?
Rounding to the nearest ten or hundred to estimate sums and differences, and using an estimate to check whether an answer makes sense. Estimation is a California addition to the 2nd grade standards.
Learning standard: 2.NBT.7.1 · using estimation strategies to make reasonable estimates in problem solving
