How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- A timeline puts events in order, earliest first.
- Years from 1801 to 1900 are the 19th century. Years from 1901 to 2000 are the 20th century.
- To find how long ago something happened, subtract its year from this year.
Example: Maine became a state in 1820. How many years after 1604 was that? Subtract the earlier year. 1820 − 1604 = 216. Answer: 216 years
