Nouns, pronouns, verbs and more
What your child practices
Using the right form of the verb “to be”, choosing pronouns, comparing with -er and -est, and picking joining words like but, or and because.
Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: 2.2.1.3 · common, proper and plural nouns, and regular and irregular verbs
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- Nouns name people, places and things. Pronouns (he, she, they) take their place.
- Verbs show action. Use “is” for one and “are” for more than one.
- Adverbs, like loudly, tell how an action is done.
Example: Which word can take the place of “Leo and Zoe”? Leo and Zoe are two people. For more than one person, use “they”. Answer: they
