Create With Words, Pictures and Sound

Choose fonts, images and modes for your audience

What your child practices

Planning and polishing texts that combine words, images, sound and video, and choosing fonts, layout and tools to suit an audience and purpose.

Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: 5.1.5.3; 5.3.3.2 · how words, images and sound work together, and choosing digital tools

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. A mode is a way to share meaning: words, images, sound or movement.
  2. Choose clear fonts and good spacing so text doesn’t run together.
  3. Pick the right tool: a word processor for writing, slides for presenting.

Example: Which digital tool is made for writing and editing text? You need a tool built for words. That tool is a word processor. Answer: a word processor
