How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practise.
- Each place is worth 10 times the place to its right, and one tenth of the place to its left.
- Read big numbers in groups of three digits. Billions come before millions.
- Thousandths are the third place after the decimal point.
Example: What is the value of the 7 in 4.073? Tenths: 0. Hundredths: 7. The 7 is in the hundredths place. Its value is 0.07. Answer: 0.07
