Units
Unit 1
Numbers to 20
Counting to 20 forward and back from any number, recognizing small groups at a glance, and comparing two numbers.
Expectation: A6.2–A6.4, A6.7, A6.8, A6.10 · counting forward and back, reading numbers to 20, and comparing them
Unit 2
Make 5 and 10
Using 5 and 10 as anchors (fingers, five and ten frames), finding how many more make 5 or 10, and breaking numbers into two parts.
Expectation: A6.5, A6.11 · composing and decomposing numbers to 10
Unit 3
Add & Take Away
Small story problems where some join or some leave (totals to 10), plus finding one more and one less.
Expectation: A6.11, A6.12 · adding and taking away to 10 with objects
Unit 4
More, Less, Same
Comparing groups by matching them one to one, seeing equal as balanced and unequal as unbalanced on a scale, and reading simple picture graphs.
Expectation: A6.6, A8.2, A8.3 · more, less and the same, and reading simple graphs
Unit 5
Patterns
Spotting the part that repeats in patterns like AB, AAB, ABB and ABC, then predicting what comes next or what is missing.
Expectation: A7.1–A7.4 · repeating patterns and their core
Unit 6
Shapes & Sizes
Naming flat shapes and solid objects by one feature (sides, corners, rolls or not), and comparing things by size, height, length, weight and how much they hold.
Expectation: A9.1, A9.2, A10.1, A10.2 · 2D shapes, 3D objects and comparing length, mass and capacity
Unit 7
Coins & Bills
Knowing what a nickel, dime and quarter are worth, and what a loonie, toonie, $5 bill and $10 bill are worth.
Expectation: A6.13 · the value of Canadian coins to 25¢ and of coins and bills to $10
