Make 5 and 10
Fill frames to 5 and 10
What your child practises
Using 5 and 10 as anchors (fingers, five and ten frames), finding how many more make 5 or 10, and breaking numbers into two parts.
Ontario Curriculum expectation: A6.5, A6.11 · composing and decomposing numbers to 10
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practise.
- A ten frame has 10 boxes.
- Fill boxes to show a number.
- The empty boxes show what is missing.
Example: Show 7 on a ten frame. How many more make 10? Fill 7 boxes. 3 boxes are empty. Answer: 3
