Grade 4 Polygons & Perimeter worksheet
from Gradelings Β· Name: ______________________
How to explain it
- Perimeter is the distance around a shape. Add all the sides.
- A regular polygon has all sides and angles equal.
- A line of symmetry splits a shape into matching halves.
Example: A rectangle is 17 m long and 11 m wide. What is its perimeter? Two lengths and two widths. 17 + 11 + 17 + 11 = 56. Answer: 56 m
Question 1
Each square is 1 cm on a side. What is the perimeter of this rectangle?
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦answer boxcm
26 cm
Hint: Count the squares along the top (9) and down one side (4). Opposite sides match, so add 9 + 4 + 9 + 4.
Question 2
Which polygon is regular?
- pentagon
- rectangle
- parallelogram
pentagon
Hint: A regular polygon has all sides equal and all angles equal. All 5 sides are the same length and all 5 angles are equal.
Question 3
What kind of polygon is this?
- regular pentagon
- irregular quadrilateral
- irregular pentagon
- regular quadrilateral
irregular quadrilateral
Hint: Count the sides: 4, so it is a quadrilateral. A regular polygon has all sides equal AND all angles equal. Its sides are not all the same length and its angles are not all equal.
Question 4
Which letter has NO line of symmetry?
- A
- L
- H
L
Hint: Imagine folding each letter. H and A can fold so the halves match, but L can't fold that way.
Question 5
An irregular pentagon has these side lengths. What is its perimeter?
Side Length (cm) A 5 B 11 C 12 D 4 E 8 answer boxcm
40 cm
Hint: Perimeter is the distance all the way around, so add every side: 5 + 11 + 12 + 4 + 8. Tip: add pairs that are easy first.
Question 6
Each side of this regular hexagon is 10 cm long. What is its perimeter?
answer boxcm
60 cm
Hint: Perimeter is the distance all the way around. A regular hexagon has 6 equal sides, so multiply 6 Γ 10.
Question 7
A rectangle is 18 m long and 14 m wide. What is its perimeter?
answer boxm
64 m
Hint: A rectangle has two long sides and two short sides. Add all four: 18 + 14 + 18 + 14. Or add 18 + 14 and double it.
Question 8
How many lines of symmetry does this shape have?
- 2
- 3
- 1
- 4
2
Hint: A line of symmetry is a fold line where both halves match exactly. Fold it top to bottom or side to side and the halves match. A diagonal fold doesn't match. That's 2.
Question 9
Which shape is NOT a polygon?
- octagon
- oval
- hexagon
oval
Hint: A polygon is a closed shape made only of straight sides. A shape with a curved edge is not a polygon.
Question 10
A polygon has 3 sides. What is it called?
- triangle
- pentagon
- hexagon
triangle
Hint: tri- means 3, penta- means 5, hexa- means 6 and octa- means 8 (like an octopus's 8 arms).
Answer key
- 1. 26 cm
- 2. pentagon
- 3. irregular quadrilateral
- 4. L
- 5. 40 cm
- 6. 60 cm
- 7. 64 m
- 8. 2
- 9. oval
- 10. triangle
