Community Services

Helpers and who runs what

What your child practices

Jobs that serve the community (fire, health, sanitation, libraries, transit) and services the government or community provides for everyone.

Alaska content standards learning standard: SS.1.2.13.1; SS.1.1.6.1 · the services communities provide, and the leaders and workers who provide them

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Community helpers do many jobs for us.
  2. Teachers teach. Vets care for pets. Road workers fix roads.
  3. Some services, like public schools and libraries, are run by the government.

Example: Where can everyone borrow books for free? It is a place full of books. It is open to everyone. Answer: the public library
