Communities Around the World
How people live in world communities
What your child practices
Communities in countries such as Japan, Brazil, Kenya, Egypt, India, Mexico and Peru: where people settle and why, how they adapt to and change their environment, languages, festivals, folktales and families.
Arizona Academic Standards learning standard: 2.G2.1; 2.G4.1 · communities in different regions of the world, and how climate shapes life there
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- Where people live shapes how they live.
- In rainy places, houses may be on stilts. Near the ocean, people eat fish.
- Changes like cutting forests can have effects no one meant.
Example: Why do people in rainy places build houses on stilts? Heavy rain can flood the ground. Stilts lift the house up. Answer: to stay above floodwater
