Price per item, miles per hour

What your child practices

Finding unit rates and unit prices, choosing the better buy, completing rate tables, and converting measurement units with ratios.

Arizona Academic Standards learning standard: 6.RP.A.2; 6.RP.A.3 · finding unit rates, using rate tables, and converting measurement units with ratio reasoning

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. A unit rate is the amount for 1.
  2. Divide the total by the number of units.
  3. Compare unit prices to find the better buy.

Example: 4 notebooks cost $6.00. What is the price of one? $6.00 ÷ 4 = $1.50. Answer: $1.50
