How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. To add or subtract, rename the fractions with a common denominator.
  2. To multiply, multiply the tops and multiply the bottoms.
  3. To divide, multiply by the reciprocal (flip the second fraction).

Example: 2/3 ÷ 1/6 = ? Flip 1/6 to 6/1 and multiply. 2/3 × 6 = 12/3. 12/3 = 4. Answer: 4
