How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. The seasons go spring, summer, fall, winter.
  2. Summer is the warmest. Winter is the coldest.
  3. Dress for the weather: a coat for cold, an umbrella for rain.

Example: It is snowing. What should you wear? Snow means it is cold. A warm coat keeps you warm. Answer: a warm coat

Weather & Seasons in Arizona

In the Arizona Academic Standards, this is unit 2 of 7 in Kindergarten Science, after What Living Things Need and before Stormy Weather.

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
