Issues in Our World

Climate, choices and working together

What your child practices

Practices how climate change and human choices affect places from local to global, how to investigate a world issue with questions, sources and timelines, and how groups build consensus and elected leaders respond.

Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: 4.3.16.1; 4.4.18.1; 4.4.21.1; 4.1.1.1; 4.1.4.1 · how climate and human choices affect places, investigating a contemporary issue, and consensus and elected leaders

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Climate change and human choices affect places from local to global.
  2. Melting glaciers make sea levels rise. Parks protect wildlife habitats.
  3. Countries work together on world problems through groups like the United Nations.

Example: What happens to sea levels when glaciers melt? Melting ice turns into water. That water flows into the oceans. Answer: they rise

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
