Unit 2
Add & Subtract
Adding and subtracting numbers to 10,000 with regrouping, counting up to subtract, estimating by rounding, and solving word problems.
Benchmark: 4.3.5.3; 4.3.5.9 · estimating and solving multi-step problems with multi-digit whole numbers
Unit 3
Multiply & Divide
Multiplying and dividing 2- and 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers by splitting them by place value, plus remainders, estimating and word problems.
Benchmark: 4.3.5.7; 4.3.5.8 · multiplying by one digit and dividing by one-digit divisors
Unit 4
Fractions
Naming fractions from pictures and number lines, comparing fractions with the same top or bottom number, using 1/2 as a benchmark, and finding equal fractions.
Benchmark: 4.3.5.12; 4.3.5.13 · equivalent fractions and comparing fractions
Unit 5
Decimals
Tenths and hundredths as decimals, linking them to fractions, placing and comparing them on number lines, and adding and subtracting decimals by lining up the decimal points.
Benchmark: 4.3.5.14; 4.3.5.15 · decimals and fractions, and comparing decimals to the hundredths
Unit 6
Patterns & Tables
Extending increasing and decreasing number patterns, naming pattern rules, finding rules in input/output tables, and describing how two quantities are related.
Benchmark: 4.3.7.3; 4.3.7.1 · making patterns that follow a rule, and writing a rule for a pattern
Unit 7
Equations
Solving one-step equations with a box or letter for the unknown, using all four operations, and matching equations to word problems.
Benchmark: 4.3.6.1; 4.3.5.9 · finding a missing value in a number sentence and solving multi-step problems
Unit 8
Polygons & Perimeter
Telling regular polygons (all sides and angles equal) from irregular ones, finding lines of symmetry, and measuring perimeter around regular and irregular shapes.
Benchmark: 4.2.4.2; 4.2.4.3; 4.2.3.4 · classifying triangles and quadrilaterals, and finding perimeter
Unit 9
Fractions
Reading and naming fractions from halves to tenths, counting by fractions, comparing them, and seeing 3 × 1/4 as three fourths.
Benchmark: 4.3.5.10; 4.3.5.11; 4.3.5.16 · fractions and mixed numbers on a number line, a fraction as a multiple of a unit fraction, and adding fractions
Unit 10
Angles & Area
Sorting angles into acute, right, obtuse and straight, finding area by multiplying length by width, and working backward to find a side.
Benchmark: 4.2.3.1; 4.2.4.1; 4.2.3.6 · lines and angles, acute, right and obtuse angles, and the area of a rectangle
Unit 11
Line Plots & Data
Reading tables of measurements in halves, fourths and eighths of an inch, finding differences, comparing two classes, and choosing questions that need data.
Benchmark: 4.1.1.4 · reading line plots, tables and graphs to answer questions
Unit 12
Times as Many
Multiplicative comparison: reading 35 = 5 × 7 as “35 is 5 times as many as 7”, and solving “times as many” problems, which are different from “more than” problems.
Benchmark: 4.3.7.2 · multiplicative patterns and comparisons
