Count to 10

Count things up to 10

What your child practices

Counting objects one at a time, matching numbers to amounts, counting on and back, putting numbers in order, and knowing that nothing is zero.

Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: 0.3.5.1; 0.3.5.3 · using a number to tell how many objects are in a set, and representing numbers to answer how-many questions

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Touch each thing once as you count.
  2. Say one number for each thing.
  3. The last number you say is how many.

Example: How many balloons? 🎈🎈🎈🎈 Touch and count: 1, 2, 3, 4. The last number is 4. Answer: 4

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
