Nunavut Curriculum approved guide: Nunavut Mathematics K–6 (2025), 1.SP.1.3; 1.SP.1.4 · concrete graphs and tally charts

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practise.

  1. Sort things into groups first.
  2. Count each group and write the number.
  3. The tallest bar or longest row has the most.

Example: 3 chose dogs and 5 chose cats. How many more chose cats? Cats: 5. Dogs: 3. 5 − 3 = 2. Answer: 2 more
