Rounding numbers to the nearest ten or hundred, counting forward and back by 50s, 100s and 200s, and comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000.

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practise.

  1. To round to the nearest ten, look at the ones digit.
  2. If the ones digit is 5 or more, round up. If less than 5, round down.
  3. Skip count forward or back by 10s, 50s or 100s.

Example: Round 166 to the nearest ten. The ones digit is 6, which is 5 or more. Round up: 170. Answer: 170
