Numbers to 10 000
Place value, compare and round
What your child practises
Reading, writing and comparing numbers up to 10 000: place value, expanded form, number lines, ordering and rounding.
Saskatchewan Curriculum outcome: N4.1 · whole numbers to 10 000
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practise.
- To round, look at the digit just to the right of your place.
- If it is 5 or more, round up. If it is 4 or less, stay.
- Change every digit after your place to 0.
Example: Round 4 763 to the nearest hundred. The hundreds digit is 7. Look at the tens digit: 6. 6 is 5 or more, so round up to 8 hundreds. 4 800. Answer: 4 800
