Resources, Floods & Droughts

How we use natural resources, how to save them, and how floods and droughts change habitats.

What your child practices

Practices how people use natural resources to build, farm, travel and make products, why conservation matters, ways to reduce, reuse and recycle, and how natural changes such as floods and droughts help some living things and harm others.

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) teks student expectation: 3.11(A); 3.11(B); 3.11(C); 3.12(C) · using and conserving natural resources, and how floods and droughts affect living things

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Natural resources come from nature: water, trees, rocks, soil and oil.
  2. People use them to build, farm, travel and make things. Wood comes from trees.
  3. Conserve them: reduce, reuse and recycle. Floods and droughts can change habitats.

Example: Gasoline for cars is made from…? It is a fuel pumped from underground. Answer: oil
