How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. A timeline puts events in order. A decade is 10 years and a century is 100 years.
  2. Order: explorers, missions, Mexican Texas, the Revolution (1836), statehood (1845), Civil War, Juneteenth (1865), oil (1901).
  3. Every event has causes and effects.

Example: Which came first: Spindletop oil, or Texas becomes a state? Statehood was in 1845. Spindletop was in 1901. Answer: Texas becomes a state
