World Regions

Countries, climates and where people live

What your child practices

The countries of the world's regions, why people live where they do, migration, population density, climates, and how people adapt to and change their environment.

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) teks student expectation: 6.3(A); 6.3(B); 6.3(D); 6.5(B) · population patterns, migration, countries of each world region, and adapting to the environment

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Regions share climate and features: tundra is cold, treeless and frozen underground.
  2. Population density is how many people live in an area. Migration to cities changes them.
  3. People modify the environment with dams, farms and clearing forests. Sustainability saves resources for the future.

Example: What does population density mean? Density is how crowded something is. It counts people in a given area. Answer: how many people live in a given area

World Regions in Texas

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
