How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Early presidents built the new government; the Whiskey Rebellion (1794) showed it could enforce its laws.
  2. Jefferson bought Louisiana in 1803. The US fought Britain in the War of 1812.
  3. The Monroe Doctrine (1823) told Europe not to start new colonies in the Americas.

Example: What did the Monroe Doctrine warn European countries not to do? It was about the Americas. The US did not want new European colonies here. Answer: start new colonies in the Americas
