Changes in My Life

Big events and putting them in order

What your child practices

Big life events (a new sibling, a move, starting school), how people's experiences are alike and different, and ordering events as a simple timeline.

Maine Learning Results learning standard: History 1 · past, present and future in a child's own life

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Your life has big events, like learning to walk.
  2. Put events in order: what came first, next, last?
  3. Changes can feel big. Friends and family can help.

Example: Which came first: walking or crawling? Babies crawl before they can stand. Then they learn to walk. Answer: crawling

Gradelings describes a child's practice on this unit as Beginning, Approaching, Meeting or Exceeding (Four practice steps). That reflects practice, not a report-card mark: the teacher decides the mark.
