Rhyme Time
Words that sound alike
What your child practices
Hearing rhymes (cat, hat) and spotting a word that doesn't rhyme. Rhyming games build the listening skills behind reading.
New York State Learning Standards learning standard: KRF2 · hearing and making rhymes
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- Rhyming words end with the same sound.
- Cat and hat rhyme. They both end in “at”.
- Say both words. Do the ends sound the same?
Example: Which one rhymes with “cake”? snake or sun? Cake ends with “ake”. Snake ends with “ake” too. Answer: snake
