What your child practices

Counting forward within 100, back from 20, by 2s to 20, and by 5s and 10s to 100, plus seeing small amounts at a glance (subitizing).

Alabama Course of Study content standard: 1.5; 1.10 · counting on and back from any number and relating counting to adding and subtracting

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Skip count by 2s, 5s or 10s.
  2. Find how much the number grows each time.
  3. Keep adding that much to find the next number.

Example: Count by 5s: 15, 20, 25, 30, ? Each step adds 5. 30 + 5 = 35. Answer: 35
