Goods and Services

How communities share what they make

What your child practices

Introduces goods (things) and services (work people do), and how communities depend on each other to exchange them.

Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: 1.2.11.1; 1.2.12.1 · how a community shares goods and services, and goods that come from other countries

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. A good is a thing you can hold, like boots or an apple.
  2. A service is a job someone does for you.
  3. Some workers make goods. Some give services.

Example: A bus driver gives people a ride. Is this a good or a service? You can't hold a ride. The driver does a job for you. Answer: service
