Needs and Wants

What we need and what we want

What your child practices

Practices telling needs from wants, and what affects how families meet their needs and wants.

Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards benchmark: 1.2.8.1 · scarcity: not enough of something for everyone's wants

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. A need is something we must have to live, like water.
  2. People work to earn money to buy what they need.
  3. People want different things. That is okay.

Example: Which is something all people need? Everyone must drink to live. Answer: clean water
