What your child practices
Reading picture graphs with three groups: how many in each, how many more, how many in all, and which question a class survey can answer.
New York State Learning Standards learning standard: NY-1.MD.4 · organizing, showing and reading data with up to three categories, and how many more or fewer
How we explain it
Children can open this short lesson before they practice.
- Count each row of the graph.
- Find the most and the fewest.
- Subtract to find how many more.
Example: 5 chose 🐶 and 3 chose 🐱. How many more chose 🐶? 5 − 3 = 2. Answer: 2
