Posters & Presentations

Design choices and how to organize a talk

What your child practices

Children think about layout, visuals and sound that support a message, and how to organize a presentation with an introduction, body and conclusion.

New York State Learning Standards learning standard: 7SL4; 7SL5 · organizing a talk and designing slides and posters

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Use large headings to catch attention and show the main idea.
  2. Keep slides short: a few bullet points in large type, with visuals that support the message.
  3. Organize a talk with an introduction, body and conclusion. Proofread before the final copy.

Example: A slide has 200 words in tiny type. What is the best fix? Too many words are hard to read. Shorten and enlarge. Answer: Use short bullet points and larger type
